Graphic Organizers to Guide and Assess Reading Fiction
Reading is a process—these are designed to guide or assess parts of the process.

The graphic organizers all develop "close reading"--as students analyze a reading and provide "evidence" to support their ideas--the conclusions they draw about the text--thereby developing competence for Common Core Reading Anchor Standard 1--
Read closely to determine what the text says explicitly and to make logical inferences from it; cite specific textual evidence when writing or speaking to support conclusions drawn from the text.

All are designed as scaffolds that students then can use to write to explain their learning.
When students write based on their graphic organizer they develop the Common Core explanatory writing competence aligned with this CCSS Writing Anchor Standard 2: Write informative/explanatory texts to examine and convey complex ideas and information clearly and accurately through the effective selection, organization, and analysis of content.
